Joseph Pilates--
"Pilates develops the body uniformly, corrects wrong postures, restores physical vitality, invigorates the mind, and elevates the spirit"

"Physical Fitness is the first requisite of happiness"
" 10 classes, feel different. 20 classes, look different. 30 classes, whole new body."
  • Pilates is a method of body conditioning developed by Joseph Pilates more than 70 years ago. It is comprised of over 500 exercises, performed as a mat-based workout or using special resistance equipment, including but not limited to the reformer and cadillac.  At The Pilates Body, we have a full compliment of pilates equipment.
  • The central concept of pilates training is strengthening the “powerhouse” or core of the body – the deep abdominal muscles, buttock muscles and the muscles around the spine. A training program based on pilates will stabilize the pelvis and shoulder girdle, stretching and strengthening the entire body with movement initiating from “the center”.
  • Often, traditional methods of training and exercising the body produce short, bulky muscles – precisely the type of musculature most prone to injury. Pilates elongates the spine, increasing the elasticity of muscles and the flexibility of joints. This balance between strength and flexibility drastically reduces the potential for injury.  It is also very therapeutic in alleviating back, neck and shoulder pain and promotes healing from within.
  • Clients will leave a pilates session feeling invigorated and refreshed, and may even feel quite happy when working out, not tortured and drained as with other regimens.  It is also extremely rare to suffer any injuries as a result of utilizing pilates exercises.  In fact, clients often begin pilates to aid in the healing of injuries caused by repetitive, high-impact, and/or incorrectly performed exercise programs.
  • Pilates emphasizes flowing movements that require using multiple muscle groups simultaneously. Controlled breathing & concentration are essential, making pilates truly a workout for the body and mind.  Muscles are strengthened intrinsically, meaning working from the inside to out.  The result is toning and developing the body in a way that will be remarkably noticeable.
